UPDATE: Word from the DNC on DNC's and Dr. Dean's stance toward the nominating procedures to be used at the Convention

Straight from conversation with high ranking personnel at the DNC:
  1. Confirmed: The Call to the Convention controls the nominating process, and therefore nominations from the floor must be made via an appropriate delegate petition. (In other words, it is NOT correct that nomination can happen simply by one person standing up and calling for a candidate to be placed in nomination.)
  2. Regarding how Senator Obama will be placed in nomination: the DNC assumes that it will be via a nominating petition per the rules stated in the Call to the Convention.
  3. Regarding efforts to organize nominating petitions for other candidates: the DNC and Dr. Dean regard these efforts as very sensitive and are attempting to take a low-approach so as to leave delegates free to act in accordance with the Call the Convention.
The foregoing points summarize what I garnered after first trying to reach Phil McNamara (see prior post for information about why I tried to reach him) and then phoning Chairman Dean's office directly. I reached somebody of rank in the office, who very helpfully addressed these points and then checked with other people in other parts of the organization to see if the information I was being given was accurate.

Until further notice, this is the information from the DNC that I will rely upon. I would have relied on this information earlier had I been as lucky as I was today in reaching somebody who appreciated my questions and my desire to convey accurate information.

Great Heidi. Your role in continuing to clarify these convoluted rules is very helpful. Now even the msm is talking about Hillary's name being put in nomination. They of course call it being on the ballot, but what they mean is "in nomination."

Heidi, thank you for all you have done to ascertain this information and to keep us all posted on what you have learned. I appreciate your efforts more than I can ever express.

Thank you, Heidi.

Regarding Item 2 and how Obama's name will be placed in nomination, it's beyond me why at this late date the "DNC ASSUMES that it will be via...." Either Obama hasn't told them or they don't want Clinton supporters to have the information they need to put her name in nomination.

This is so like third-world "elections" and quite shameful.

oldcoastie, Obama is not one to worry about legalities. Our regressive progressives will continue to slap more lipstick on him when he continues his undemocratic ways. It's all so amazing and something I never wanted to witness.
