A doctor who really needs a doctor: more from the department of are you kidding me?

In today's NYT, that paper once again made itself ridiculous by quoting journalists, journalism professors, and media pundits all chorusing that they simply see nothing sexist in the media's primary season coverage of Senator Clinton. But the stunner in the story is this absolute gem from our wonderful D.N.C. chair, the hapless Dr. Dean:
Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic Party, who says he was slow to pick up on charges of sexism because he is not a regular viewer of cable television, is taking up the cause after hearing an outcry from what he described as a cross-section of women, from individual voters to powerful politicians and chief executives. (emphasis mine)
Is Dr. Dean kidding me? He was slow to pick up on charges of sexism (notice he still has not picked up on the sexism - the same sexism that apparently nobody other than Katie Couric has been able to discern) BECAUSE HE IS NOT A REGULAR VIEWER OF CABLE TELEVISION?!

Dr. Dean, seriously, right after you resign, we need to find you a doctor, a good psychiatrist. Because you are quite clearly mad as a hatter. First of all, charges of sexism were not being leveled on cable television, sexism was occurring on cable television. Second, I don't even get cable TV in my house, but all one had to do was walk into any airport or bar where there was a TV playing and I assure you the most casual hearing of the coverage included stunningly obvious sexism when it came to Senator Clinton. Third, the sexism in the media was in all varieties of the media: newspapers, magazines, non-cable television. I trust that as chairman of the D.N.C. there are SOME news sources you look at regularly, eh, Dr. Dean? Fourth, you didn't even have to look at a news source, all you had to do was listen to yourself talking to reporters and making dismissive comments toward Senator Clinton that smacked of sexism toward her.

Dr. Dean, after you resign, we will get you the help you so clearly need. In the meantime, spare us your "investigation" of the media. Inspect yourself, sir, inspect yourself.

Heidi, first thank you for all that you do . and yesterday I called the DNC . I told someone there about Dean not coming to Hillary's defence on sexism . How could *61 be the nom. without the popular vote. I said SD's have not voted. She told me I did not understand the system. I said the DNC did not understand the system. Never in history has a primary that the winner did not receive the popular. I said I would be voting for McCain.

I really enjoying reading your blog. Thanks again.

Oh Heidi, I did not know you had it in you. Bravo!!

I posted the following on

I know money is tight everywhere but we need to RETIRE THE DEBT and give Hillary some options. She gets it that this is all about democracy. Please read
the post that starts: “The DNC pressured Hillary. An email from someone who watched it happen.” Go to:

Then please go to:
and continue to HELP RETIRE THE DEBT

Also, living in California I am a bit embarrassed by Senator Boxer's switch. I wondered why the switch after her promise to vote the way California did, for Hillary, and of course found out that there had been a fundraiser for her in February 2007 thrown by the the selected one.

Do you know if the financials of political parties are audited?

Have you heard that a Clinton delegate is so annoyed that while she will vote for Clinton at the convention she will support McCain if Hillary does not win?

I guess Howie never received all those messages we've been leaving with the DNC either.

Reminds me of the Nazi who said in his own defence, "I only drove the train."

Does he expect us to swallow this?

Thanks again for a good and thoughtful post. Gotta go write the Chairman a letter before he resigns. That will happen as soon as O gets everything he wants.

He also must have missed the exit polling since March, the huge wins in W.Virgina and Kentucky, the last win in South Dakota, all the big state primary wins, the popular vote.

And somebody somewhere convinced him that you win the Democratic primary with 1/2 the pledged delegates plus 1. Maybe he should watch more cable and stay off the orange blogs.

If Howard is really this stupid, I'm glad he was never my doctor. It's not even a good lie, Howie.

Unbelievable! Particularly when you realize how many of us called his office, emailed, and wrote to complain and insist that he do something! Or is he admitting that he never reads his messages either? This clown needs to go get a job he can handle. This definitely is not one of them.

It is pitiable when liars have to pretend to be stupid in order to avoid being caught out in their lies. They're eventually caught anyway, and in the meantime, they've rubbed salt into their own wounds (and, sadly, into those of others, too). It is so terribly disgusting, pathetic, and gut-wrenching.

He never knew....who does that sound like?? Dean is just pandering because I think they are beginning to see that women are not just going to "get over it". They need our support and votes and they are not getting it. It would have been great for someone on that side to stand up and say something about the tshirts and dolls at airports too dissiing Hillary. For them to now say they didn't know it was going on is an insult to our intelligence. Stick it Dean.

I guess he didn't have time to read the thousands of letters and emails? Or maybe he regarded all those as "bitter". Or he had the same foul stance as Donna Brazille who discredited every objection, no matter how politely worded, as hostile aggression? I would call his behaviour as treason on democracy! Not only should he resign, he should be forced to study the constitution, the basics of Democracy and take a test on these subjects.

As always, you hit the nail on the head; but before you get all worked up about Dean, let me tell you this. Dean is now making excuses because he can. He's got what he wanted, Obama as nominee, he is claiming ignorance because only now he being held accountable for his lasp in judgment and for his choice. He probably think feigning ignorance will get him off the hook. This is an easy one that most politician play. The slap in the face for them will either be McCain klopping in November or Obama bring this country in more danger after he is elected. For me, I'm waiting for the shoe to drop on Obama, one that they can no longer ignore.

I love how he didn't know.
That's the best lie he could come up with? I guess he never got the phone messages left by hundereds at the DNC office!

Thanks for your great blog!

Talk about being out of touch!

hmmm....perhaps he was having a "senior moment"? lol

We perhaps can rest assured that once BO secures his hold on the DNC, Dean will be encouraged to"retire" (thrown under the bus) and have lots of time to catch up on all his mail, read newspapers and watch videos of the media coverage.

Thanks for the great post Heidi!

Dean may be figuring....

Hey, it worked for it's only fair that the head of the DNC should also get away with feigning ignorance of blatant hate speech...until the public outcry makes it politically expedient to sound offended and shocked.

I don't know if anyone else has come up with the phrase...but I am calling it the OBAMA POSSUM DEFENSE.

play possum-to pretend or feign ignorance, illness etc..

Or for those who could also be called the Sergeant Schultz defense...“I hear nothing, I see nothing, I know nothing!”
Sergeant) Schultz was played as a bumbling idiot on Hogan's Heroes...but Dean and Obama (and who's next) are presenting their ignorance as a prerequisite for leadership in the Democratic Party.
It just gets scarier! AND as ludicrous as it is...I'm not laughing
